Modern missile system S-500 will be supplied to the Armed Forces in 2016 already, Chief of the Russian Air Defence Major General Victor Gumenny said in an interview with the Echo of Moscow radio station on Saturday.
He said the advanced systems may solve the tasks of air-space defence and may fight hypersonic weapons.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are not something new in military technology. They have been being developed around the world engaged since the 70-ies of the last century. However, they have achieved their heyday as means of warfare recently.
There are shock drones in Russia. On June 28, 2013 at the site “Alabino” in Moscow the Defense Minister was shown more than 10 unmanned systems of domestic production. Some of them were in the open air, the other part – in the army tents – it was a closed exposition for specialists.
Equipped with a shiny new logo and claiming its guns are “protecting peace”, the Russian weapons manufacturer Kalashnikov launched a major rebranding drive in Moscow on Tuesday. Kalashnikov Concern, a new overarching brand that includes the famed assault rifles as well as hunting and sports weaponry, paid a leading Russian agency to design a new brand and renew its worldwide image.
“The Kalashnikov is a Russian symbol that is known across the world,” said Alexei Krivoruchko, Kalashnikov’s chief executive. “The rebranding is a symbol of changes in the way our business works and our product lines that have been long in the making. The new brand will reflect our main principles: reliability, responsibility and technological efficiency.”
Systems tests of Angara-5 launch vehicle have been completed at the launch site of Plesetsk cosmodrome
Systems tests of Angara-5 heavy launch vehicle (LV) have been completed at the launch site of Plesetsk cosmodrome, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the official representative of the Aerospace Defense Forces, Alexey Zolotukhin.
“The team of Plesetsk cosmodrome has completed the system tests of multi purpose launch site designed for Angara launch vehicle,” Zolotukhin added.
In the course of the systems tests the cosmodrome’s specialists carried out a number of electric tests of systems and components of Angara-5 and launching equipment, tested a system responsible for fueling the LV with components of rocket propellant and checked the readiness of the multi-purpose launch site for the first launch of Angara-5 heavy LV.
Angara-5 LV has been removed from the launch pad of the multi purpose launch site and transferred to integration and test building, where the cosmodrome’s specialists started preparation of Angara-5 LV for the start of flight tests.
The first launch of Angara-5 heavy LV from the Plesetsk cosmodrome is scheduled for December 2014.
Soyuz TMA-15M manned transport spaceship docked with International Space Station (ISS) on November 24th 2014 (05.48 Moscow time), press-service of Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) reports.
The spaceship docked with Rassvet research module of Russian segment of the ISS. The rendezvous procedure has been performed in automatic mode under control of specialists from Mission Control Center of TSNIIMASH, crew of Soyuz TMA-15M: commander Anton Shkaplerov (Roscosmos), flight engineers Samantha Cristoforetti (ESA) and Terry Virts (NASA); and the Russian members of ISS crew Alexander Samokutyaev and Elena Serova.
Small arms manufacturer Concern Kalashnikov will introduce a new brand and corporate development strategy through the year 2020 on December 2.
The presentation will take place in the Central Telegraph and will bring together Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Concern Kalashnikov Alexey Krivoruchko, law enforcers and members of the military and security services.
Rebranding should help create the image of Concern Kalashnikov as the leader of the Russian arms manufacturing industry, extending to all markets in which the company is present. A common architecture has been created for both the Russian domestic and international markets. Changes will affect the visual image of the Concern’s brand and the structure of the entire product line currently in production.
The weapons manufacturing holding company Concern Kalashnikov financed the creation of its new brand from its own cash reserves. The company did not raise any money from the government to implement this project.
Concern Kalashnikov’s products are shipped to 27 countries around the world, including the US, UK, Germany, Norway, Italy, Canada, Kazakhstan and Thailand. Kalashnikov generated more than RUB 2 billion in 2013 revenues. US and Canada imposed sanctions on the Concern in July 2014, forcing it to suspend deliveries to these two countries.
Concern Radioelectronic Technologies (KRET) has created an upgraded BINS-SP2M strapdown inertial navigation system for the fifth-generation T-50 (PAK FA) fighter jet that autonomously processes navigation and flight information, determines position and motion parameters in the absence of satellite navigation, and can integrate with GLONASS, Russia’s space-based satellite navigation system.
BINS-SP2M is guaranteed to last at least 10,000 hours, almost twice as long as its foreign counterparts. Moreover, the Russian system has better performance characteristics and can be utilized universally as it can be installed not only in airborne, but also in marine and terrestrial equipment.
The BINS-SP2M navigation system for the T-50 was developed by two KRET enterprises, Moscow Institute of Electromechanics and Automatics (MIEA) and Ramensky Instrument Engineering Plant (RPZ). The equipment is built on the basis of laser gyros and quartz accelerometers, instruments for measuring the acceleration of moving objects.
French President Francois Hollande announced on Tuesday that the transfer of the first Mistral-class helicopter carrier to Russia was put on hold over the situation in Ukraine.
The Mistral-class amphibious assault ships are known as “projection and command ships” in French. The ships are used as command centers, for helicopter operations, to transport military vehicles, including tanks, and to serve as hospitals at sea.
France started developing these ships in 1997 in line with the National Concept for Amphibious Operations. The first ship was designed by the General Delegation for Armaments and French naval defense and energy group DCNS. Several foreign contractors were also involved in the program.
The ship displaces 21,300 metric tons deadweight, and its maximum length and beam span 210 meters (about 700 feet) and 30 meters respectively.
Concern Radio-electronic technology (as part of the state corporation Rostec) created a modernized Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems BINS-SP2M for the fifth-generation fighter T-50 (PAK FA).
The system autonomously handles navigation and flight information, determines the position and motion parameters in the absence of satellite navigation, and provides integration with the military constellation of satellites and GLONASS.
Guaranteed life cycle BINS-SP2M – not less than 10 thousand hours- is almost twice higher than that of their foreign counterparts. In addition, the Russian system has better performance characteristics and is universal, the developers. Can be installed not only on the air, but also on the marine and terrestrial technology.
The state testing of Il-78 Full Mission Simulator developed by CSTS Dinamika has been completed, the company’s press-service reports.
«It is the first full mission simulator for Il-78 tanker aircraft in the history of the national aviation. It is designed for training of the whole crew: pilots, pilot-navigator, flight engineer, flight radio operator and fuel operator. It is the first simulator for a large transport aircraft in the history of CSTS Dinamika,» the company noted.
The simulator is designed for training of Il-78’s crew in the following areas: piloting, navigation, operation of the equipment and avionics, interaction between the crew members as well as between the crews of tanker aircraft and an aircraft being refueled (the actions of the latter one are simulated from the instructor’s station). In order to simulate the aerial refueling process, models of 12 refueled aircraft of different types were created; the impact of aircraft wake on behavior of a refueled aircraft moving close to the tanker was simulated, CSTS Dinamika added.
The state testing of the simulator was being carried out by the experienced pilots, pilot-navigators and engineers of Chkalov State Flight Test Center. After taking some remedial actions, the experts of Chkalov State Flight Test Center highly appraised the quality of simulation model responsible for movement of the tanker aircraft. The tests confirmed that the simulator is efficient in terms of pilot training and honing skills in the area of piloting Il-78 transport aircraft.
